Issues with sleep IN MODERN SOCIETY and use of Yoga Nidra

Yoga Nidra is an ancient practice also called NSDR that can help you get deep sleep. Around 10 minutes of deep rest if done well can equate to 2 to 3 hours of sleep. 50-70 million US adults have a sleep disorder with 35% of adults report less than 7 hours of sleep per night.

In today’s modern society we are always looking for a way to do more and this often results in less sleep. Often promoted as a “waste of time” sleep is luxury. We believe that 7 to 8 hours of sleep is imperative. But if this not something you can manage then do at least 1 to 2 Yoga Nidras a day. We haven’t even got in to the benefits of how it can help with programming your sub-conscious, but a quick 10 minutes of following a voice to do Yoga Nidra seems very beneficial.  NSDR Can Help You Take Control of Your Sleep and Restore Your Energy

Insomnia is the most common sleep disorder, affecting 10% of adults.  We have seen sleep disorders increase the risk of heart disease, stroke, and diabetes.

NSDR as the term coined by Andrew Huberman can really help you take control of your life. Let me give you example of one of our clients, Rohit. A typically senior business executive in his 30s. About 6 hours of Sleep ( not recommended by us). But we get it. People have things to do. Kids, commitments and work. He was always cranky, his night time sleep was distrubed and he never felts fresh in the morning. We introduced just a 10 minute Yoga Nidra session before going to sleep. This really ensured deep sleep, and a healthy start. Remember your next morning starts a day earlier with a night of sleep.

Think of it 10 minutes of night time ritual can completely change your life patterns. Healthier morning, less cranky at work, and more focused. The ripple effect.

“10 minutes just changed my life. Its not easy. I had to give up on Netflix/work till I was almost falling asleep. I had to be more mindful, and shut down 10 minutes before. The team at NSDR-Yoganidra really helped me. Did live sessions, and sent reminder messages. It took discipline and the team at NSDR-Yoganidra really helped me”

The Secret Connection Between Mindfulness and Sleep: Exploring NSDR and Yoga Nidra

Yoga nidra is the yoga of aware sleep. In this lies the secret of self healing. Yoga Nidra is a pratyahara technique in which the distractions of the mind are contained and the mind is relaxed.

– Satyananda Saraswati

The Power of Guided Relaxation: How Yoga Nidra Can Help You Achieve Deeper Sleep

Yoga Nidra/ NSDR starts with a body scan and helps you focus on the present. By rotating awareness through the body parts, yoga nidra stimulates specific sections of the brain in a precise sequence. This awakens the deeper brain centers governing involuntary functions and releases control from the intellectual conscious mind.

Scientific studies have mapped out the “little man in the brain” – showing how each body part corresponds to a defined section of the sensory cortex. Yoga nidra flows through this inner map, accessing even the most dormant areas of our neural circuitry.

Sleep disorders increase the risk of heart disease, stroke, and diabetes. Also, the main reason for not restored sleep is stress. Whether stress at work or stress with family situations. NSDR & Yoga Nidra is that pill that can help you with it. Dont take our word for it. Take control of your life, by first doing this free 10 minutes Yoga Nidra.

A famous documented and scientifically backed example of Yoga Nidra is of John who is a 35-year-old combat veteran who was diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) after returning from deployment. He was experiencing anxiety, flashbacks, insomnia, anger outbursts, and depression. Prior treatment with psychotherapy and medication provided only minimal relief. John began practicing yoga nidra meditation for 30-45 minutes daily with the help of a recorded audio program. He would listen to the instructions while lying in savasana pose. The program guided him to systematically rotate awareness through his body, breathe deeply, and visualize calming images.

After just one month of consistent yoga nidra practice, John reported a significant reduction in all of his PTSD symptoms. The immersive relaxation provided through the meditative practice allowed his mind and body to release long-held tension and trauma.

John found he was able to go to sleep more easily and sleep more soundly through the night. His mood improved and angry reactions became less frequent. He felt more confident leaving his home and resuming activities he used to enjoy. His anxiety levels were cut by half.PET scans taken after two months of yoga nidra revealed markedly increased activity in the limbic system and prefrontal cortex regions compared to his scans prior to starting the practice. This corresponded with the emotional regulation and reasoning improvements he had described.

John continues to practice yoga nidra daily and credits it with restoring balance and equanimity to his life. He was able to reduce his psychiatric medication under his doctor’s supervision. His case provides powerful evidence for yoga nidra meditation as an effective complementary treatment for PTSD and other mental health disorders.
